Kenneth D. Polivy, M.D., FACSDr. Kenneth D. Polivy is a graduate of Brown University and a 1978 graduate of the Tufts University School of Medicine where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He completed his orthopedic training at the Tufts-New England Medical Center serving as Chief Resident and was a Fellow in Spinal Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Dr. Polivy is a Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Tufts University School of Medicine. He is a member of The North American Spine Society. Dr. Polivy is the Associate Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at the Newton-Wellesley Hospital and a past President of the Massachusetts Orthopedic Association.

Dr. Polivy recently was honored for his 25 years of teaching at the Tufts University School of Medicine. He has a special interest in operative and non-operative spinal problems as well as general and sports related orthopedic issues. Dr. Polivy is Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery, specializing in Spine Surgery and General Orthopedics, and was recently named to the AAOS Board of Councilors.

Alfred W. Hanmer, M.D., FACS

Alfred W. Hanmer, M.D., FACSDr. Alfred W. Hanmer is a graduate of Springfield College and a 1983 graduate of Tufts University School of Medicine where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed his residency at the Tufts New England Medical Center and served as Chief Resident.

Dr. Hanmer is the Associate Chairman of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Newton, Massachusetts. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor in Orthopedic Surgery at the Tufts University School of Medicine and Assistant Director of the Jim and Ellen Kaplan Center for Joint Reconstruction Surgery at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He has received the Partners in Excellence Award from Newton-Wellesley Hospital for working to optimize infection control strategies during total joint arthroplasty. Dr. Hanmer is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and specializes in sports medicine and joint reconstruction.

Dr. Hanmer has a special interest in hip arthroscopy and muscle-sparing joint replacement such as anterior approach techniques. He has an additional interest in pain control measures following joint replacement. He is a member of the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is an avid endurance athlete and enjoys many outdoor sports including skiing and climbing.

Daniel C. Snyder, M.D.Dr. Daniel C. Snyder is a graduate of Tufts University School of Medicine. He completed his orthopedic training and a pediatric orthopedic fellowship at Tufts Medical Center. He is a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS).

Dr. Snyder is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Tufts University School of Medicine. He is Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery and specializes in total joint replacement and is a leader in the field of hip joint preservation. Dr. Snyder’s practice is currently focused on consulting, teaching, and assisting with anterior hip surgery and hip joint preserving approaches for the treatment of arthritis of the hip.

He completed his orthopedic training at Tufts affiliated hospitals: The New England Medical Center, The New England Baptist Hospital, The Newton-Wellesley Hospital and the Boston Veterans Administration Medical Center. Dr. Quinn is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Quinn also holds a Subspecialty Certificate in Orthopedic Sports Medicine.

A varsity athlete at Brown, Dr. Quinn received the Robinson Memorial Award for Academic Excellence. He specializes in Shoulder and Knee Reconstruction, Sports Medicine, and Arthroscopy. Dr. Quinn is an Assistant Clinical Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine. Dr. Quinn has served as the Team Physician for the Boston Cannons professional lacrosse team. He is the healthcare consultant for MPS (Mass Premier Soccer). He sits on several committees for the Medical Staff at Newton-Wellesley Hospital and participates in the Post Boston Marathon Runner’s Clinic.

Matthew Messina, D.O.

Matthew Messina, D.O.Dr. Matthew Messina is a graduate of the University of Maryland and a 1993 graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

He completed his orthopedic training at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia. Dr. Messina served as Team Physician for the University of Maine Division I Ice Hockey and Football Programs. His interests include Sports Medicine, Joint Reconstruction and Fracture Care.

Dr. Messina is a member of the American Osteopathic Association of Orthopedics and the American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons. He is currently the assistant medical director for the Lasell College athletic training education program. He is a clinical assistant professor in orthopedic surgery at the Tufts University School of Medicine and is Board Certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery.

Laurie Katz, M.D.Dr. Laurie Katz is a Magna cum laude graduate of Tufts University where she received many athletic awards as a varsity diver. She is a 2002 graduate of Tufts University School of Medicine where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. She completed her orthopedic residency training at the Tufts Combined Orthopaedic Surgery Program. She then went on to complete a fellowship program in Sports Medicine at New England Baptist Hospital. During her fellowship, she gained training room experience working as an assistant team physician for the Boston Celtics and Harvard University Athletics. She is the current medical director of the Lasell College athletic training education program.

Dr. Katz is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor in Orthopaedic Surgery at Tufts University School of Medicine and is board certified in orthopedic surgery. She is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) and the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA). Aaron Gardiner, M.D.Dr. Aaron Gardiner is a graduate of Harvard University and a 2004 graduate of the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. Abraham D. Kim, M.D.

Abraham D. Kim, M.D.Dr. Abraham D. Kim joins Newton Wellesley Orthopedic Associates, Inc. after serving as Clinical Instructor at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Tufts University/New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, MA. Dr. Kim is a fellowship-trained surgeon specializing in adult reconstruction of the hip and knee, including primary and revision joint replacements. He has expertise in minimally invasive techniques, including direct anterior hip replacement and partial knee replacement.

Building upon his surgical interests, Dr. Kim has published extensively on a wide range of innovative topics in orthopedic surgery and joint replacement that have been featured in several leading orthopedic journals. He has received many academic honors and has been invited to present his research at national and international meetings.

Dr. Kim received his undergraduate education at Yale University, where he majored in Psychology and graduated Cum Laude with Distinction in the major. He then graduated medical school from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at University of California, Los Angeles, where he was Chief Resident during his final year of residency. He pursued further subspecialty training in adult hip and knee replacement at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, MA, one of the busiest joint replacement centers in the country.

Bruce Leslie MDDr. Bruce M. Leslie is a graduate of Brown University and a 1978 graduate of Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. He was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He trained at Tufts-New England Medical Center and completed a combined Tufts New England Baptist Hospital Hand Fellowship.

Dr. Leslie is an active member and chairman of the Government Affairs committee of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, a former member of the Board of Councilors of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and past president of the Massachusetts Orthopedic Association. Dr. Leslie has published numerous articles and book chapters. He has presented at many international, national and regional conferences and is a recognized expert in the field of Hand and Upper Extremity surgery. He also holds the distinction of having performed more distal biceps tendon repairs than any other surgeon worldwide.

Dr. Leslie is Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery with a certificate of added qualification in Hand Surgery.

Evan D. Schumer, M.D.Evan D. Schumer MD is a graduate of Cornell University and a 1992 Summa Cum Laude graduate of the State University of New York Medical School at Buffalo. He was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society in 1991 and received a number of awards for excellence during his academic training. Dr. Schumer trained at the New England Medical Center, served as Chief Resident at the New England Baptist Hospital and completed a Hand and Upper Extremity Fellowship at the State University of New York at Syracuse.

He is an active member of The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Society for Surgery of the Hand and is an Assistant Clinical Professor in Orthopedic Surgery at Tufts University School of Medicine. He continues to pursue original research related to Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery, which he has presented at regional, national and international meetings. Dr. Schumer has published numerous articles and book chapters. He treats all hand and upper limb conditions in adults and children, with particular expertise in microsurgical repairs and reconstruction. He is heavily involved in the research and development of surgical instruments and is the holder of multiple patents on novel devices used in upper extremity surgery.

Nicky L. Leung, M.D.Dr. Nicky L. Leung is the assistant chief of the division of hand surgery within the department of orthopedic surgery at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He is double Board-Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and Hand Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons as well as the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. Dr. Leung is also an Assistant Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the Tufts University School of Medicine and is involved in the selection and training of young orthopedic surgeons. He has published and presented research in orthopedic surgery and hand surgery. Dr. Leung treats all adult and pediatric problems of the hand, wrist and elbow, with a special interest in complex elbow fractures, elbow arthroscopy, and reconstructive challenges. He enjoys spending his free time with his wife and two children.
