Newton Wellesley Orthopedic Associates in Newton and Wellesley, MA treats common conditions of the neck and cervical spine, including neck pain, arthritis, herniated discs and pinched nerves.

Conditions Affecting the Neck

Neck Pain

The neck, or cervical spine, is vulnerable to injuries that can cause a great deal of pain and require treatment. That pain can indicate soft tissue damage or damage to the bones and discs of the neck.

Degeneration of the vertebrae in the neck is common as people age. This can lead to cervical arthritis. Symptoms of neck arthritis include chronic pain, muscle weakness, numbness, stiffness, headaches and loss of balance.

Herniated Disc/Pinched Nerve

A herniated disc, or pinched nerve, in the neck occurs when a disc presses on a cervical nerve. This can cause neck pain that also radiates down the arm, weakness in the arm and hand or numbness and tingling in the arm and hand.
