Gabriel Perrone, M.D.
Dr. Gabriel Perrone is an Orthopedic Spine Surgeon fellowship-trained at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, with expertise ranging from ultra minimally invasive endoscopic procedures to complex open revision surgeries. He is highly skilled in navigation-based and robotic technologies as well as traditional open approaches, allowing him to offer the full spectrum of spine care tailored to each patient’s needs.
A Newton native, Dr. Perrone began his academic career at Tufts University, where he earned his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering and a master’s in Biomedical Engineering. His graduate research focused on developing innovative bone screws made from silk, igniting his passion for advancing medical technology.
Following graduate school, he joined the Department of Orthopedics at Boston Children’s Hospital, where his research on anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) repair using a novel collagen scaffold contributed to FDA approval of this pioneering technique. He went on to earn his Doctorate in Medicine from Tufts University School of Medicine, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society. He completed his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at Tufts Medical Center, making him a “quadruple Jumbo.”
Dr. Perrone continued his training in Spine Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. There, he received extensive training in complex spinal trauma, spinal tumors, degenerative spinal pathology, and spinal deformity. He also had the unique opportunity to train under Dr. Raymond Gardocki, a world leader in uniportal endoscopic spine surgery, gaining significant expertise in ultra minimally invasive endoscopic procedures. These advanced surgeries use smaller incisions, cause less disruption to surrounding tissues, and allow for faster recovery compared to traditional spine procedures. Today, Dr. Perrone is among only a handful of surgeons in the Boston area offering this innovative approach.
He practices with a patient-centered philosophy, prioritizing the least invasive treatment possible. Dr. Perrone emphasizes conservative care first — including physical therapy, medications, and injections — and offers surgical solutions only when necessary. His goal is always to help patients return to their lives with as little pain and downtime as possible.
In his free time, Dr. Perrone enjoys spending time with his wife and young daughter. He can often be found in Maine or on Cape Cod, where he loves fishing, kayaking, and cooking for family and friends.
