Triceps Tendon Rupture at The Elbow
These injuries can result in significant disability and loss of arm function. The diagnosis is usually made on a physical exam or an MRI. X-rays may show a small flake of bone pulled away from the tip of the elbow (olecranon). Partial injuries in patients with low physical demands can be managed with a period of rest in a sling and physical therapy. Complete ruptures, or partial triceps ruptures occurring in physically active individuals should be surgically repaired.
