At Newton Wellesley Orthopedic Associates, we are proud to recognize the outstanding women who have contributed to the field of orthopedic surgery.
This month, we honor their achievements and commitment to improving lives through exceptional care. We are inspired by the women on our team and across the profession, who work tirelessly to advance the science of movement, healing, and recovery.
When Dr. Laurie Katz first began her career, women comprised only three percent of orthopedic surgeons. Since then, more women have decided to enter this specialty, and women such as Dr. Katz and Dr. Eileen Colliton currently represent 8-10 percent of practitioners. NWOA is proud to have Drs. Katz and Dr. Colliton as members of our team.
As we celebrate Women's History Month, let’s continue to support and encourage the next generation of women in orthopedics. Together, we can build a more inclusive and diverse future for healthcare!
What advice would you give to women in your profession/position?
"My advice to women in orthopedic surgery, or any medical field, is to stay confident, committed, and resilient. Orthopedic surgery requires long hours, dedication, and sacrifices, but if you love what you do, it's worth it. Build a strong support system, seek mentors who inspire you, and remember that you belong in this field just as much as anyone else. Never let anyone make you feel otherwise. Focus on your passion for helping patients, and don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself and others." - Dr. Laurie Katz
